During perhaps the most beautiful days on the estate of Keukenhof Castle, when the dahlias are blooming, the LAM museum offers a great experience. You know that blissful feeling of those crunchy, salty fries on Friday night? That is what you will get at the LAM from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 September 2022, but without the greasy fingers this time!
Lie down in a gigantic, lifelike chip tray and hear how ordinary people like you and me search for happiness through snacks, sneakers, shopping, luxury trips and other experiences. What do they snack on and why does that make them so (un)happy?
Fries from Friesland
The XXL fries trays in which you can lie down and hear the snack stories of others, were devised by the Frisian company Tryater of theater makers Aukje Schaafsma and Karel Hermans. Snack Happiness, was previously a hit at the well-known festival Oerol.
From endless shopping to another tattoo
Snacking in Snackgeluk is more than just craving chips and chocolate. Are you what you eat, buy or collect? How do you snack happily? You hear the story of a woman who just keeps shopping. “Sometimes I stayed shopping so long that I was late for work.” The man who keeps wanting a new tattoo tells how he gets the giggles when he gets his first one. Or maybe you recognize yourself in the story of the man who collects special sneakers: ‘Your body just says: I must have them. After three days the dopamine is gone again.’
Snack happiness for the whole family during the Dahlia Days
The experience Snack Happiness is fun for all ages, super photogenic and you get a gift from the LAM museum. Combine Snack Happiness with the LAM museum
After the session in the snack boxes of Snack Happiness you will undoubtedly feel like more art about food and consumption. You do not need a ticket for Snack Happiness, you can order a ticket for the museum here. Expect chocolates the size of footballs, an overwhelming wall of one year of food and drink from one person, an almost scary-real mother with baby and groceries, a festive table where the champagne splashes over the glasses, a ten-foot-long bunch of moldy grapes made of gemstones and glass beads and a wondrous creature of toothpicks.
On Saturday 10 September it is also Open Monument Day on the estate, a unique opportunity to admire our neighbors Keukenhof Castle up close.
