We’ve listed our house rules for you below.
Coats, bags, and umbrellas are not permitted inside the museum. You can store them free of charge in the cloakroom or in a locker.
Why? Not only to prevent accidental damage to the artwork, but also because coats can introduce unwanted moisture into the galleries. Most importantly, we want you to feel free; carrying extra items can hinder the immersive experience we aim to provide.
Some artworks are almost too tempting not to touch—a wonderful compliment to the artist. However, we must ask you not to touch the artworks. Each touch subtly changes the piece.
This, of course, does not apply to works where we explicitly invite interaction, such as the bronze monkey by Merijn Bolink. We also encourage you to take a seat on the wooden sound installation by Elise ‘t Hart, Jonas Wijtenburg, and Nils Davidse; it is the best way to fully experience the work.
Taking photos of yourself or fellow visitors in the museum? We love it! Tip: ask one of our Viewing Coaches to take a photo of you together. They’re happy to help.
If you would like to take professional photographs as a journalist or photographer, please always contact our Head of Communications, Froukje Budding, beforehand.
Would you like to write or sketch in the galleries? Great idea! Sketching helps you notice more and different details. Please use pencils only—pens can cause permanent stains.
While the LAM museum collection is mouth-watering, we kindly ask you not to eat or drink inside the museum. Fortunately, restaurant De Hofboerderij is just a stone’s throw away, located right here on the estate.
Not so much a rule, more an aspiration: Feel at home, talk, and laugh as much as you like. The more you share, the more you’ll see. Our Viewing Coaches are always up for a chat!
As much as we love them, dogs and other pets are not permitted inside the LAM. Assistance dogs, of course, are always welcome.
The LAM is fully accessible for visitors using a wheelchair or walker. If needed, you are more than welcome to borrow one of ours.
With us, everyone is a VIP, regardless of age or experience. We make no distinction between adults and children in what we offer; everything we do is for all ages. Our Viewing Coaches tailor every visit to your personal needs.
For your safety and the security of the museum, we use video surveillance. These recordings are used solely for this purpose and are not kept longer than necessary.
Did something get broken, despite everyone’s best intentions? We understand that’s a terrible feeling. In such cases, you will be held liable. We will handle the situation calmly together.
Keep an open, positive mind and a curious eye. Let your curiosity run wild. Remember: there’s no such thing as a silly question or a strange association; please share them with us. We love to listen and look forward to getting to know you during your visit.
Group visits are NOT possible at the LAM museum.
A museum that doesn’t allow groups? That calls for an explanation.
The LAM museum operates with a unique concept involving Viewing Coaches. These coaches provide tailored tips and engage in looking at the art together with you. Groups have a different dynamic and level of interactivity than individual visitors, couples, or small parties like a family. Our concept simply doesn’t work as well with groups. Because we want to give every visitor a truly special experience, group visits are unfortunately not possible.
Is your group a multi-generational family (children and adults)? Then you are the exception to the rule. Families are the only groups welcome at the LAM museum, and we look forward to seeing you!
