Le Banquet – Ariane Loze and her blue sapphire ring

“The ring with the blue sapphire, the same color as my eyes” The Netflix series “The Crown” presents in season three ‘princes Diana’. The same series that won the 78e edition of the Golden Globes award (2021).

Conversation

How would it feel like if you had conversations with yourself – or yourselves? Ariane Loze in her short movie “Le Banquet” shows this situation. Twelve different Ariane’s sitting at the same table. All of them different aspects and personalities.

Conversations that lead to nothing. Different personalities with different points of view, and a bride with a blue sapphire ring. Discomfort, discussion and tension. A strange view. How the same face and the same voice can make a movie so vulnerable.

Princes Diana

It’s said that Princes Diana chose her own wedding ring. In the Netflix series The Crown, this blue ring caused many controversies. This because the ring came from the catalogue of the crown jewelry Gerrald. Anyone with $60,000 and a passion for sapphires could have bought it. Diana’s choice for the ring, because it is ‘something blue’, was therefore criticized.

The Blue Sapphire ring

Why did Ariana wear a similar ring in her short movie? Does it have to do anything with discovering the self? As a symbol of strength and trust? Or did she just want to wear ‘something blue’?

Maybe this ring will put you on to thoughts. Or maybe just ‘some thoughts.’
