Our 2019: the art

What did 2019 bring you? The end of the year is invariably a time to take stock and ask ourselves the big questions.

We are counting our blessings.

The art

Machteld, a member of the collection team, worked up quite a sweat in 2019. She helped our art handlers move artworks, weighing a few grams up to hundreds of kilos, and assisted artists when installing their new pieces. There were both big and small changes, always with the aim of making you, as a visitor, see things in a different way. A new context almost automatically affords a fresh perspective. It makes a difference when you hang a piece high or low and when you choose to place a particular artefact next to it.

Things were therefore often changed; changes which you would have no doubt experienced as a regular visitor. Each and every week, a work of art was added, moved or returned to the depository to provide a different perspective and context.

2020 promises to be just as vibrant. You can be sure that we will put your gaze through its paces and perhaps the rest of your senses too. And here is a sneak peek for you: our mother and baby from Ron Mueck will soon have some competition. A small human figure from the US with the magic of Lego bricks is to be given a place in the LAM in the new year.

Take a look

We have created a video of the various pieces we acquired in 2019 (in Dutch only). Enjoy!

An unexceptional painting by Raquel van Haver.

Niels Post made a work of art for our entrance hall.

Kim Habers made a dazzeling wall sculpture.

Merijn Bolink created two cuddly bronze sculptures.
